Not So Calm Before the Storm

I’m not sure which is worse, icy winter storms, or anticipating icy winter storms.

This weekend the forcast calls for rain, falling temperatures and then ice. Consequently, this becomes the week of preparation before the storm. It’s sunny today and not horribly cold; all in all a pretty nice day. But the weather forecasters are insistent that I do not enjoy the day’s weather or pay any attention to it. Instead I should put all my energy into anticipating the horrors of the weekend ahead.

It always seems to me that they more the news talks about a coming storm, the more hype they throw out there, the less intensive the store actually turns out to be. It’s as if their ramblings and babblings and warnings are the only actual thing that can head a storm off in its tracks. If that is the case, then more power to them, talk it up all you want. The real danger comes when they predict a couple snow flurries or a light frost. That’s when we end up with two inches of ice covered with a foot of snow.

But there’s the midwest for you, conditions unpredictable and ever changing. Of all the boring things around here, weather isn’t one of them.

  1. Maybe their in cohoots with all the stores! You know how crazy people get when they say snow. They fill their carts like they have no food in their house or they’ll be snowed in for days.
