Um, No Deal
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007Last night I was working on my cable pattern wrap, and I had Deal or no Deal on the TV for background noise. This was a very bad idea.
I’d finally finished unkintting and re-knitting the final row of the border 4 times to get it right. I was having significant trouble getting my increases spaced the way I wanted them. I know the formula, it just wasn’t working out too well over a large number of stitches and a large number of increases. I finally convinced myself, however, that it could be aesthetically good without being mathematically perfect.
So I was working on the first pattern row, knowing I had to count and work very carefully to lay the pattern down right. So I’m working along, k4, p6, k4, p1 - just about the time on the crazy show that the contestant is rattling off case numbers and screaming out for amounts. It totally killed my concentration and made me unable to count as high as six. So yes, I had to pull it and work it once again without the television in the background. Thank goodness that row is over, from here on out it’s easy to look at the previous row if my count gets off.
I am a perfectionist to begin with, and add to that the fact that this is the largest knit project I’ve undertaken so far, with the biggest cost layout for the yarn, so I’m pickier than ever. I don’t have a lot of patience for doing the same row over and over though. Yuck.
And by the way, the yarn shop I hit over the weekend was great. Very nice people, lots of wonderful yarn. What more could you ask for? If you are in Overland Park, KS, check out Yarn Shop and More.
