Were They This Cute?
Friday, February 9th, 2007I don’t remember the boys being quite as cute as RM when they were little. I’m sure they were perfectly adorable, but honestly, could any child be as darling as this one?
Last night I was in the kitchen working and she wandered off into the hallway. A couple of minutes later I head the vacuum switch on. Immediately after that I hear RM screech, and in she comes, running full tilt, waiving her arms in the air in a complete panic. I scooped her up and hugged her tight, but had to laugh at how big here eyes were and the look of shock on her face. She’s quite the button pusher.
A couple weekends ago the boys got into a large argument over some little thing. I herded them off to their separate corners (rooms) and began the lecture about walking away from arguments and learning what things to let go. RM followed behind me, walked up to TR’s door, shook her little fist and babbled a long string of syllables at him. She then moved to SW’s door and repeated the process. I guess she was just getting her two cents worth in.
Today she has been consumed with arranging the magnets on the fridge. She takes some off, puts them back on and slides them around. Then she backs up a few steps, studying her work from a distance. She crouches down and tilts her head, to get a better angle I’m sure. Then back up to the fridge door to continue to work on the masterpiece. She’s definitely on her way to being a true artist.
I know at one time or another I had hundreds of these stories about the boys too, but so many are gone now. Too many years have gone by I guess, and too many of these little things are lost to my aging brain cells. My journals from those days are spotty and incomplete. I’m hoping to do better with this new chance that having RM has given me. I’m learning to jot down the memories about the guys that she reminds me of too. It’s all too precious to go about losing.
