More Socks
Friday, March 9th, 2007I’ve been distracted by smaller projects, enjoying the sense of accomplishment lately when everything in my world seems to be conspiring to create mess after mess that can’t seem to get fixed. I think the projects are all that is keeping me sane.
So I of course started yet another project. Again, it’s a little unfocused of me but it’s a coping mechanism. I’ll say more on what that is in a minute. But I was inspired by the new project and by TR’s requests to finish the socks I’ve been working on for him - and here they are:

It’s the same basic pattern as the ones I did previously for V, the Yarn Harlot’s basic sock recipe. These are in something from Knit Picks that doesn’t seem to be available anymore, and of course I lost the ball band again. I did them on US 3 dpn’s. You can see they are not identical; the colors on the striping don’t match because there simply wasn’t enough yarn to cut off at the beginning to match the stripes. I thought about cutting the beginning yarn and moving it to the end to try and match colors, but I didn’t want to mess with getting the length right to get the stripes the same width, and I wasn’t positive it would work, and I thought this way would come out nice anyway (which it did.) I’m glad I took the photos last night, because the socks left the house on TR’s feet this morning.
RM either likes the socks too, or she was jealous that I was taking pictures of Bubba’s feet and not of her. Here she is trying to crawl into the picture.

SW likes the socks too, trying to grab them for himself.

So, before I actually finished this pair last night, I cast on another pair for myself. Thinking that with (nearly) two successful cuff down pairs under my belt, it was time to try toe up. I’m using the Universal Toe Up Sock Formula from Knitty. It’s a challenge, but I’ve made it past the toe on the first one already. I surfed around for instructions and managed to learn a provisional cast-on and wrapped short rows. Just to make it more interesting, the yarn is a size smaller yet and so are my needles.
I don’t know why I feel the need to justify the number of projects I have going on. After all, it’s my yarn! It may seem odd to some people, but it makes me happy. And when the life gets messy and frustrating and out of control, anything that makes me a little bit happy is no small blessing.
