Not Only a Mom

Words from a whole person.

Photos, Take Two

I knew I’d eventually get around to retaking the photos the camera ate. They didn’t come out all that wonderful, but I’m not doing it again. Really, how many times and a person photograph the same thing?

The small projects I keep talking about lately, the ones that give me that nice little sense of accomplishment, are dishcloths. It’s not the fanciest of knitting, but there are a lot of advantages to them. They are small projects, portable, in some cases mindless, on other cases small scale practice of more complicated stitch patterns, infinitely practical, and the yarn for them is really cheap. I’ve done a few lately, thinking ahead for Mother’s Day gifts. Yep, that’s a little out of character for me: actually thinking ahead to something.

I joined the the Monthly Dishcloths Yahoo group for some of these. It adds an extra bit of fun; getting the pattern an bit at a time and working to see what comes out. Here are the two February patterns:

I had so much fun with these, I hunted through the archives and did this one as well. I’m not thrilled with how the varigated yarn pooled on this, so it’s probably destined for the dirty dishes around here.

Then one last one for now, from a pattern I found following links from other members in the group. This is the same yarn as above, but it looks much better in this pattern.

If you count the cloth I gave to V on Valentines Day (my highly romantic gift) that’s five quick and easy completed projects for February. Sounds good doesn’t it?

  2. I love your dishcloths….you have done a great job! I,too, like you, enjoy small projects like dishcloths and bookmarks to boost my “ego” on completing something! I do large projects and use the small projects to rest my mind or to learn a new stitch. I love your site! i feel that you are talking directly to me. Keep up the great work!

  3. Great job on the dish cloths! You must be a fast knitter. I’m a newbie, and I’m still on my first dishcloth that I think I started 4 days ago (maybe 3-4 hours put into it so far). But it’s great practice, and I’ll be so happy to have a finished product in a few days. I’m doing a butterfly cloth that is displayed on this yahoo groups homepage for now:

  4. Your dishcloths came out so nice! I usually change my needle size - either up or down - to avoid pooling. 6s or 7s are my usual Sugar & Cream needle size.

She’s got lots of neat dishcloth patterns for free. I’ve made a few for gifts that have turned out beautiful.

Also, that’s a wonderful picture of the baby and kitty. (Is is a kitty, right? I can mostly see a round pile of fur.)

  5. Thanks Becca, that’s a great site. Beautiful patterns.

Yep, that’s one of the kitties up there with RM. She lives to find warm places to sleep!
