Blooming

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I promised light and pleasant things today, but the day is getting away from me and I have a feeling the weekend will too. But I do have some quick lovelies to share:

The lilacs are fully in bloom and smelling wonderful. Fortunately I took this shot a few days ago, as the heavy rains the last day or so are taking some of the beauty away. Not the scent though, thank goodness.

The fun part is that as my lilac bush fades, my neighbor’s will begin to bloom and keep up the scent in the area for a little longer. I don’t know a lot about gardening and growing things, so I’m not sure why the timing is so different. I’m thinking possibly because mine is on the south side of the house and hers the north. It seems like that could impact when they start to bud and bloom in the spring. Maybe it’s just a difference in the variety. At least I don’t have to understand it to appreciate it.

This is my beautiful tulip. I’d show you more of them but, well, there aren’t any. This is it, my only one. This is “the” tulip around here. In eight years of living in this house, every year we get this one tulip. It was here when we bought the house, and it’s still here now. I’d plant more to keep it company, but somehow that seems wrong. It has thrived for so many years I have to think it’s just happy this way.
