A Rescue

We have a soft spot for animals around here, in case one couldn’t tell. So yesterday, when this little guy fell from his nest and wandered in to the tent the boys had up in the front yard, we had to do something about it.

We got him out of the tent to see if he could fly yet, but no luck there. He did manage to hop a good distance across the yard and over to the neighbors’, chirping loudly all the time. His parents were still bringing food to the empty nest trying to find him.

So the boys found a box and we chased the little guy (gal?) down and herded him in. Then we had to move the tent out from under the tree, and drag out our rickety ladder. I held the ladder, and a brave TR climbed it, ducking the dive bombing parents who didn’t understand we were trying to help. TR managed after several attempts to slide the little bird out of the box and safely back to the nest.

We stood back and waited, hoping the little guy wouldn’t get rejected. In just a few minutes, mom and dad were back with more food, baby was chirping and chowing down, and all was well.
