One Failure, One Success

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

I finished two soaker projects for RM with mixed results. The first one I made from a knit in the round pattern, attempting to make it large so I could felt it just a bit to get something better for nights. Considering she sleeps with me, I really, really like a diaper cover that doesn’t leak. Unfortunately, however, the silly thing shrunk up in unexpected ways. It’s still too wide, especially in the waist, but really too short now. I think it’s a total loss. I haven’t brought myself to toss it yet, but it’s lying around out of sight. Maybe I’ll come up with some brilliant idea to fix it, but I thinking probably not.

My second one was definitely a success though. I used the Tiny Birds soaker pattern and some Paton’s Classic Merino. I made a few changes to the pattern, mostly just adjusting to make it a bit bigger and to work with the gauge I was getting. I also did all my decreases and increases in neat pairs on the knit side rows. I think this came out really well.

Just for fun, I decided to try my hand at something new on the back side. I’ve been intrigued by intarsia and picture knitting, so I hunted down a simple pattern to use. RM was busy playing with the dog while I was surfing for a free chart. I think that must have inspired me to use this one:

Not bad for my first try at a new technique I think. I won’t show you the inside, it’s not so pretty. The blue at the back of the waist band was not some well planned out part of the design. It’s where I ran out of the other yarn!

The hand in the photo is RM of course. She was very interested in my little photo session this morning. She kept taking the soaker off the table and putting her toys there instead. So we had a little teddy bear photo session as well. Dora did such a nice job modeling for us the other day, we decided to give this bear a go at it as well. The rabbit I think is just there for moral support.

It’s appropriate though, a paw print for a teddy bottom.
