Not Only a Mom

Words from a whole person.

Sewing….

So I see on another blog, then again at the fabric store, that September is National Sewing Month. Now I’m something of a contrary person in general, and more inclined to do my own thing when the urge strikes me, and a month designated (who designates sewing month?) for a task is more likely to make me shy away from engaging in that activity.

But my sewing projects have been nagging at the back of my mind lately and the timing seems right to knock a few of them out. I’m always looking for balance in my life, and I try to avoid always and never. This means I have to be careful to sometimes go with the flow on thing.

So I picked up a few sewing supplies yesterday; not many really. As pitiful as my yarn stash is, my fabric stash is a bit overwhelming as I used to be in the business of sewing things and there are still many leftovers here. I’ve mentioned the jackets for the guys that have been cut out and waiting for me to finish for an embarrassingly long time. I’ve found patterns and ideas for a cute skirt for RM, for reusable shopping bags of which I never have enough, for gifts for my nieces and nephews for the Holidays. There’s a nice little pile of simple mending waiting for me as well.

I just have to dig the sewing table out from under the mounds of stuff that have been accumulating there. Then I’ll sharpen up the rotary cutters, oil the machine, and get to it. I’ll just have to try to not think about the knitting projects that will languish in the meantime.
