A Flock of Snitches

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Here’s a little flock of Golden Snitches that landed at the park this afternoon.

These were knit with Sinfonia mercerized cotton yarn on US size 3 needles.

The ball is simple but a little different than I’ve usually seen them done. I don’t like pairing the increases and decreases; I can never get it to come out right. I cast on 42 stitches, alternated knitting a round, and decreasing 6 evenly on a round (SSK to decrease) until I was down to 6 sts, then used the tail to thread through and tighten. Then I picked up 42 sts at the cast on and repeated the whole thing, stopping to stuff it before I closed it up. This makes it nice and neat, and matching on both halves.

I cannot find the link to the pattern for the wings, but it’s out there somewhere, I didn’t make it up. As soon as I find it I’ll add it!

They are stuffed with rice inside a layer of quilt batting.

I made four all together. Two I’ve bartered to a friend for a wonderfully soft doll. (It’s been hard for me to hold on to it until RM’s birthday next week.) One of them has flown the coop already; the kids have done something with it. The odds are not good that I will get to keep the last one for myself.
