Don’t Touch

Don’t touch anything, it might break. That seems to be the theme for this week. I have had several days in a row now of nothing working out for me.

It’s not surprising that the cable company is letting us down this week. They dropped channels from our no-frills basic service and offered a digital upgrade for free. Unfortunately it seems that digital service only works intermittently, and they can come out and fix that for us on Friday. (Gee, thanks.) To even get the upgrade on our account we spent two days tracking down and correctly posting the payment we made last month.

Two days in a row I was motivated to do some cooking. Both times I was several steps in to the mixing and prepping when I discovered someone had eaten some of my ingredients. It was frustrating enough the first day when I discovered what I thought was a well hidden half package of mini chocolate chips was gone. It was doubly frustrating the second day in a row of standing on a chair digging in the back of the cabinets trying to find the bag of walnuts that had been likewise consumed. Then a whole batch of yogurt failed to set up overnight and went down the drain this morning.

Oh yeah, and apparently my batch of macaroni and cheese was missing some subtle ingredient or had some minor variation in flavor, as SW pronounced it “wrong” last night.

I had to buy printer ink the other day since my cartridges can only be refilled a couple of times before the electronics on them go bad and the printer no longer recognizes they are present. I got my black ink reinstalled, printed two pages, then had the color cartridge similarly fail me. It makes me a little nuts that I can’t convince it to print anything at all - even if I don’t want color it still won’t print.

I can’t even drive right it seems. I managed to cut corners wrongly and hit two curbs yesterday. I suppose I should count my blessings that the tired survived.

I am forging ahead on several projects anyway. Perhaps it’s foolish optimism, or just stubbornness on my part, but honestly I simply need to get things done. I’m cutting out some flannel PJ’s for RM today, at least the pants, since it’s finally getting chilly at night and my little scooter won’t stay under the covers for any length of time. I seem to have successfully cast off the Forest Canopy shawl and am ready to block it. Another lace scarf is coming along well, and I’ve started an Irish Hiking scarf also - again so far so good.

Perhaps the disasters of this week are simply an indication that I should do nothing more than knit and sew for now. I really do like to have something on the TV in the background though, so I guess one more call to the cable company is in order. You know, the squeaky wheel and all that.

Now I shall cross my fingers that the act of posting this does not break the blog.

(Editing to add - of course, in saving my edits and corrections it timed out and ate everything. So again, I shall cross my fingers that this re-do of the edits shall post correctly. I bow before the powers of chaos.)
