Ouch
Monday, October 15th, 2007Last week I managed in one way or another to injure my back and left shoulder. It probably happened holding a squirming two-year-old, or maybe hauling endless loads of laundry, or even picking up the one hundred and twenty seventh lego off the floor.
In any case, it got gradually worse and worse throughout the week. I actually couldn’t even sit still completely still; the muscle spasms were making my whole shoulder twitch. I tried the ibuprofen and heat approach without any luck. I would normally go the chiropractic route, but I’m in-between chiropractors at the moment, and the only new people recommended to me are on the wrong side of town to get too at the moment. So when it got unbearable Saturday morning we made a trip to the emergency room and got some pain medication and muscle relaxers.
I’m feeling gradually better each day now, but my head is somewhere up in the clouds and I’m completely unable to focus on anything. I’m making endless notes just to remember to do routine little things that I normally don’t even think about. Hopefully in the next day or two I can stop the pills and get my mental function back.
I learned a valuable lesson from all this. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to knit complicated lace while under the influence. It was a very, very bad idea. All I can say is thank heavens for lifelines!
