Forest Canopy Shawl

There’s done, and there’s done done.

I cast off this one about a week and a half ago, but getting around to blocking and photographing was another matter!

It’s the Forest Canopy pattern, and I couldn’t recommend a better starting lace project. It’s easy enough to follow and the results are fantastic. This is for my Stepmother, who is very petite, so the size is perfect. I already have ideas to make another for myself, adding several repeats to make it larger. (As I am not very petite!) It measures 26″ neck to tip, and is 56″ wide.

The yarn is Mountain Colors Weavers Wool Quarters, taking just one skein. I could have probably done one more pattern repeat with the yarn I have. The color is Sweet Lavender, and looks truest in the bottom close-up photo. I used US size 7 needles (I knit a bit on the loose side.)

I really love this shawl. The challenge now will be waiting for the Holidays to give it to her. But I have scarves for my Dad and Mom, plus quilts and blankets for the nieces and nephews to keep me occupied between now and then, so I am quite sure the time will fly!

  3. Your shawl is just gorgeous! I live in the KC area too, in Lee’s Summit and saw your interest in the LS group. Since it meets on Saturday, I don’t get there very often (Saturday is a huge family and errand day for me as a working Mom). But that’s a nice group, and I’m sure you’ll be a welcome addition when you’re able to come. Feel free to drop in any time.
