Not Only a Mom

Words from a whole person.

Birdie

This last week/weekend I tested this lovely pattern for Melissa at Inner Child Crochet. It’s a Scarlet Macaw Hand Puppet.

It was such a pretty thing I had to give it a try. RM has always had a bit of a fear of puppets, so I was prepared to give it away if needed. But it worked out OK in the end; she watched me working on it and saw it going together. Then I took the time to carefully demonstrate that it was my hand in there, and not a toy suspiciously coming to life on its own. She’s enjoying it so much she gave it a name (Birdie) and has also started tolerating the one other puppet in the house.

The pattern was very fun to do and really nicely written. I have an idea already to make another one in different colors, and probably even give more of Melissa’s patterns a try.

I’ve spent so much time knitting lately that it was very pleasant to crochet something for a change. So much so that I have another toy in the works for RM already. It seems I’m in a casting on mood at the moment as I’ve also started work on some mittens and volunteered to test another toy pattern - for the boys this time so they won’t get left out because Moms have to be fair don’t they? No complaints from me though, having plenty of projects to keep my busy helps keep the creative therapy going. And I really need that these days. Time to sit and worry about things is not good.
