Not Only a Mom

Words from a whole person.

It Makes Me Sad

It makes me sad that my husband and my sons can’t talk to each other. V asks me what SW wants on his potato instead of walking into the next room to ask him. The boys ask me what Dad would watch on TV with them instead of asking their Dad who is in the same room. How did that happen?

It makes me sad that when a girl with Autism learns to communicate, she has to tell people what she wants is to be treated like a human being. We should know that already.

It makes me sad that my Father and Stepmother are so uncomfortable with Autism and Bi-Polar disorder that they won’t spend time with their grandchildren.

It makes me sad that there are so many people out there who can’t communicate with their families. Parents criticizing children, children avoiding parents, and differences of opinion evolving into complete rifts between generations. If we can’t treat our own families with respect, compassion, understanding and tolerance, what hope is there for peace in the rest of the world?
