Oh Yeah, I Knit Too

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Really, I do knit. I crochet too. Lately I haven’t had much to show for it though. That seems odd to me, because not a single day goes by that I don’t spend at least some time with yarn running through my fingers.

I crocheted some toys for a friends store. (Need cloth diapers? Need a sling or wrap or other baby carrier? Environmentally friendly disposables? Toys? Nice things for Moms? Go visit Happybottomus in Lee’s Summit, MO!) I’m doing some knit toys for a group swap that actually took place last week. (Sorry once again everyone, I will get them done.)

I’m working on a new felted bag for myself. I love my old one but for all the things a mom ends up carrying around it’s just a bit too small. I’m trying to work out a one piece, no seaming approach with a similar shape to the old one, just a bit wider and deeper.

I have a doll for RM started and well in progress. Some other toy ideas to try and work out. A pretty lace shawl in fingering weight yarn is on the needles. All of these things make me feel comfortable that I will have plenty of projects ready for warm weather. I am sure that eventually there will be warm weather again.

For now though, the cold keeps coming back. It seems wrong; I keep thinking that it just isn’t this cold in March around here. It can’t be. And we’ve had a couple of teasingly warm no-jacket type days to prove it. Yet somehow the low tonight is supposed to be something like 10 F.

So I’ve decided to do something about it. I cast on for a nice, warm wool hat. I am determined to finish it in the next day or two and actually wear it. Or at least have someone around here wear it because it’s my first hat, and I have no real idea as to just how big it’s going to be. It’s entirely possible two of us may be able to wear it at once.

If completing a wool hat doesn’t bring on Spring, I don’t know what will.
