Not Only a Mom

Words from a whole person.

For Want of a Nap

Over the last few weeks a whole lot of things in my life have fell by the wayside. Blogging is one thing obviously. But along with that has gone some of the laundry, vacuuming and creatively prepared meals. I’m learning what I can cut out of a day and still remain a respectable Mom and housekeeper. Saturdays with my knitting friends have given way to a chance for a good nap. I still hold out hope that I’ll adjust to my new working hours and find a balance that works. It’s tough though!

The one thing that won’t give way is knitting though. I’m in need of a sanity saver more than ever. I finally finished and felted my new bag:

It’s basically the Booga Bag pattern, just worked over a 60 stitch by 40 row base to make it nice and roomy. It would have been nice had it been a little bit taller, but I used every little bit of three skeins of Plymouth Galway Highland Heather. I cut off about 8 inches of the cord when it was finished, and that’s all the leftover. (That little bit of felted cord makes a fantastic kitten toy!)

Then I’ve started a couple pairs of socks for nice, light summer projects:

This is the Froot Loop pattern in a pretty yarn dyed by my friend Kay of Dome Hill Yarns. It’s soft and wonderful to touch, and the color is rich and soothing to look at too.

Then I always need a simple project that doesn’t require a lot of counting or keeping track of row patterns. This is what I work on when I’m somewhere chatting, watching RM play outside or at the park, or fitting in a row or two when I’m stuck waiting somewhere.

Just a simple basic sock in a 3 X 2 rib. I’m doing it over 80 stitches on size 0’s just to keep it a little bit challenging. The yarn is Fortissima Colori that I got off the old Destash blog quite a while ago.

I want to try to be a better blogger, but no promises. Sleep is just too precious.

  4. Tracy, we miss you at knit group, but I totally understand. You have such cute projects going and finished. The Booga bag is great, and I LOVE those Froot Loop socks - Kay’s colors really are GREAT. Those Fortissima socks are looking nice too. I nearly always have to knit socks on size 0’s. But they hold up better that way, with tighter fabric.
