A Few Words About Why I’m Here
I am a couple more than one too many things in my house. I’m the alarm clock for everyone to get to school and work on time. I’m the cook and the dishwasher. I’m the nanny and the schoolteacher. I’m a fashion consultant. I’m the dispensary and the budgeter and the banker. I’m the only voice of reason. All this is before lunch.
I’m a referee and a mediator. I am the taxi service. I’m the responsible adult in the group. I am secretary and bookkeeper. I am maid and janitor and handyman. I’m also the zookeeper.
I fix the broken, nurse the hurt and comfort the sad. I organize and I manage and I improvise a lot. I set the good examples and more than a few of the bad ones too.
It’s easy to get lost in the number of roles I’m forced to hold. So I created this. A place to vent and voice about all the people I’m supposed to be, and a place to just be me as well.
TR is my 16-year old son, full of teen anxiety and wonderful promise and a deeply caring heart. SW is my 13-year old boy, he has Autism, but more importantly has a keen mind, a sharp wit and a drive to find what he wants out of life. RM is the daughter I always wished for to round things out; going on 2-years old in the fall and keeping us all charmed and delighted every day. We live in a small Missouri town that can’t decide if it is or is not part of the Kansas City metro area.
Given a choice, I’d hire myself a maid and a cook, a few private tutors and therapists, a groundskeeper and a handyman. I’d spend a lot more time knitting and crocheting, playing with the kids and the animals, and just living life before it starts slipping by me any faster. But unless we manage to win the lottery sometime soon, I don’t see that happening. So I’m working on keeping the house standing and the kids thriving and trying to balance it with a little bit of “me” every day.
